Have you ever put powdered sugar through a sifter and watched it fall?

That's what it looks like outside right now.

The snow isn't sticking, and it's quickly turning back into rain, but we've now had our first snow of the season. I wish I didn't have to go to school today. I'd much rather sit here in my bathrobe, sip my latte, and watch the weather. It doesn't help that the fact that there is snow tells me that it's freakin' cold.

It was so difficult to get out of bed this morning. I had a bad dream last night (I can't even remember it now, but it was scary), and I couldn't get back to sleep for about fifteen minutes. For some reason, this tiny break in my sleep schedule translated into fifteen minutes of napping after the alarm went off. I suppose that's a fair trade.

The term continues its inexorable march toward Winter Break, and I'm actually pretty pleased with where I am right now. I have a 7-8 page paper due this Thursday, and I wrote almost three pages within an hour last night. I figure that, if I spend about an hour or two on it tonight, I should have it done early. *SHOCK!* I never finish papers early, especially if they're research papers. I usually wait until the night before they're due and spend hours and hours agonizing over a paper that will, at best, get a C+. This paper will, at least, be off my mind before the due date, and I'll get a good night's sleep the night before for once.

After that, I have a 6-7 page paper due a week from today. That one should be more fun--I have to write something in imitation of one of the poets we've studied this term, then write an explanation of why my work successfully imitated the poet in question. I think I also have to read a few more articles critiquing my chosen poet, but I think that should be fine. Then I have three finals next week, two of which are at 8:00 am. *blehs* Why do my instructors not understand that I do not function at 8:00 am? Ah, well. With luck, such a thing will never happen again. I must study this weekend, in any case. My most difficult class (Medieval Manuscripts) has its final on Monday at 8:00 am. Yeeeeecccccchh.

A week from Wednesday, I'll be done. I've been looking at the Medieval Studies offerings for the next two terms, and I am highly encouraged. It looks like I'll easily be able to get the credits I need and have fun doing it. Right now, I'm looking at a class on "Medieval Holy Women" (rock!) and another one on "Men, Women and the Chivalric Ideal in Medieval Literature and Song." There are others that sound fascinating, but these sound most interesting.

And now, having babbled about the end of term (since that's what's most on my mind at the moment), I must go and dress myself so that I will be presentable for class. Further updates will come later.

Yesterday, Loki found a mouse and chased it around the house. We were unable to catch it, and Loki lost interest the moment we started trying to find out what he was playing with. Today, we found the mouse again. It ran across the floor when we came home and hid behind the china hutch. Alex went and grabbed a wire wastepaper basket and had me stand sentinel while he pounded on the china hutch to try to drive the little bugger out. It worked--the mouse ran up the basket and over my hand. Little mousy paws are tickly. Plus, it startled me. I jumped back, and the mouse ran under the hall desk. Alex cornered it with the basket and got it to run inside.

The problem with this is that the wire sides of the basket are perfect for mice to climb up. Alex had to keep tossing the mouse in the air so that it didn't climb out of the basket. It was rather amusing to watch the little mouse go flying up in the air and land (softly!) back in the bottom of the basket. I rushed to open the door, and the mouse found freedom by flying outside onto the patio. It sat very still for a few seconds, and then scampered away.

Now, of course, I have this mousy conversation in my head:

House Mouse: OMG! It was so freaky!*
Field Mouse: What? What happened?
House Mouse: The Huge Things chased me, and I ran into this box! And every time I tried to climb out, I wound up jumping into the air! It was SCARY!
Field Mouse: OMG! Then what happened?
House Mouse: The next thing I knew, I was outside! I'm never going back in there again!
Field Mouse: Word.

*Conversation translated from Mouse.

Oh, YEAH.

I think that all of us (especially those of us who are finding it increasingly difficult to write our required final papers) can understand this tarantula's pain:
