elfie_chan: MY cup of tea! (Default)
Whew...I'm wiped. I stayed up too late last night...but I've finished Harry Potter 5. It was wonderful; I think I liked it better than any of the other books. But then, of course, I just tend to like Harry Potter. Not in a scary, absolute-fanatic sort of way, but in a good, healthy, when's-the-next-book-coming-out-anyway kind of way. ^_~

In other news, I had my first role-playing session as a GM yesterday. I was really nervous, but it went well and everybody seemed to have fun. Of course, it was all introducing new, first-level characters and nobody had played in the setting (Swashbuckling Adventures) before, so I think that made it easier. It was fun to see how everybody got into their characters, including using silly accents! We didn't have a lot of time, as some people still needed to finish their characters, but that was okay because I didn't have a ton of the adventure written up. They have enough to go on, though, and I had a blast making up NPCs on the fly, including a Hagrid-like harbormaster (Mario, because no one in town can pronounce his real name), a silly German sailor (Hans), and an English pirate-type who kept babbling on about whatever came to his mind (Charlie). And then there's Captain Morgan, but the characters haven't met her yet. ^_~ Of course, then I had to type down those NPC's names and occupations so that I could remember them later, as the player characters will be running into them again. Heh heh heh...*evil GM laughter* However, I didn't do all of this myself. Alex has been helping me immensely, especially with some of the fine points of GMing. The GM for a group I'm actually playing in gave me some tips, too. Alex is also really good at helping me come up with plot. We bounce ideas off each other. (He's playing in the game, but he's very good at not using OOC information in game.) I need to take some notes on future plot and character stuff that Alex and I have worked out, and I still have to figure out all the experience point rules and so on, but so far, everybody's just having fun. We'll see how the next session goes--I have to work out what happens next! I mean, I have a BASIC idea, but I've got to do more research into the world that we're playing in. It has so many possibilities! I've still gotta print out the rules for cannons...

In any case, after the session was over, however, I was shaking all over. I had been so tense--so eager to do a good job. Alex told me that I did well, except that he'd prefer if I tried to keep my NPC comments more period. If that was the only complaint, I think I must have done okay, for a beginner. ^_^ Still, it was nerve-wracking, even though I had a great time. Once I know the rules better, things will be easier on me, I think. Of course, it helps that no one has challenged me yet. They ask me for stuff. Hee. I'll have to make sure it doesn't go to my head...this feeling of power...power over people's very DESTINIES! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *blinks, clears throat, looks embarrassed* Umm...yeah. Anyway. GMing is fun.

Mette is in Texas. Pooh. Ah, well. Maybe she can come visit me next year or something. *snugs Mette-chan*

In other news...umm...I'm going to an SCA event next week! HUZZAH! It was very sad to miss Egil's over Memorial Day weekend, but going to Marina's (Alex's sister's) wedding was more important. ^_^ However, now we get to go to West War! This pleases me muchly. I've missed dressing up in fun clothes, running around with friends, and enjoying the Dream. And this year, I get to actually see the War! I've only seen the fighting once; usually I'm running around, going to weddings, volunteering, stuff like that. This year, Alex and I are going early to help set up the site and stake out the campsite for us and the people who will be camping with us. We're also planning to stay and help with clean-up (or come back the day after the event is over to help with clean-up), so I don't feel a lot of obligation to do lots of volunteering during the actual event. I'll probably do a little, but I'll mostly take the opportunity to spend time with my family and friends.

Well, I should probably go and get Alex off the PS2 so we can go to Sunday School. Further reports later!
