Rawr! I'm productive!
Jun. 25th, 2003 09:11 pmIt's interesting how different things catch your attention depending on where your concentration lies. Yesterday, for instance, Alex and I were turning soil and planting herbs and plants and stuff. We found an interesting worm that had tied itself into a knot--literally. As we watched, it untied itself and wandered off (well, crawled off). We also found a colony of pillbugs that had set up a worship site around the damp rag that Alex had left beneath our mint planter. One can only wonder what trauma was wreaked on their primitive civilization when the planter was taken and the damp rag was removed, thereby depriving them of their Source and scattering them to find what shelter they could. Of course, they all escaped to create little colonies in the newly-turned soil and tell their amazing story to all their distant relatives beneath the ground.
Well, maybe I'm getting a little fanciful here. Heh. Still, it's kinda fun to think about. We did see a bunch of pillbugs scurry off when we moved the mint planter and took away the damp rag, though.
More interesting things:
-Yesterday, I saw an amusing bumper sticker: "Frodo has failed...Bush has the Ring!" No matter what side of the political fence one resides on, I think most fantasy fans would get a chuckle out of that one.
-Did you know that there's a fun plant called a Chenille Firetail? Alex and I saw one at Jerry's yesterday, and it's the most interesting plant I've ever seen...green leaves with these soft, fuzzy red tails hanging out. The tails really are fuzzy...I touched them, and they are soooo nifty! Unfortunately, they grow best in full sunlight and in a hanging basket, and Alex and I don't have a good place for either one. Foo. I really liked it. It's my new favorite plant. To see what it looks like, go here!
Of course, after I saw this plant, I immediately dreamed up a little fuzzy creature that would live in such an environment. It would possess a tail identical to the "firetails," and it would have big eyes and big ears and a tongue that it would use to catch bugs. ^_^
-Alex just showed me a computer game called Get Medieval. It's possibly the funniest game I've ever seen. If you can get your hands on a copy, do so. It's a D&D-type dungeon crawl with fun comments like, "Robin Hood would be scared right now...but I'm not!" You play one of four characters who run through the dungeons, slay monsters, pick up treasure, and make smart-alec remarks while they do it. Lots of fun. Oh, and the characters MST their own game intro. Gotta love that.
-I am going to be creating some knotwork designs for embroidering...this is made much simpler thanks to a nifty website called Aon Celtic Art. The tutorial on how to do dragon celtic knots is most helpful. I can't wait to try it out. I'm also looking into learning how to make chainmail. Woot! New hobbies are great, and I want to MAKE stuff.
-I'm re-learning how to play the pennywhistle. I know the basics, but I really need to practice.
-I'm also starting to work again on an old hobby--website design. I need to get my comic off the ground (I've been saying this for months now, I know), and I'll need some webspace (eventually) to put it in. Until I get said webspace, I figured I'd better work on a webpage to put up when I get the webspace. Make sense? No? Tough. ^_^
I guess that's all that's really interesting just at the moment. Wedded life continues to be great, bliss bliss etc. And that's it for now. Further bulletins as events warrant.
P.S. Thank God for Cut & Paste!
