It's interesting to me how reading about writing inspires me to write. I was reading Naked Once More by Elizabeth Peters (which is not a romance novel, no matter how much the title sounds like one) this morning, and I was immediately inspired to sit down at the computer and write for a while. Of course, I got up obscenely early this morning (6:30 am) because I heard my mother washing the dishes and I had promised to wash them. To my surprise, after eating breakfast and doing the myriad of other things I have to do to get ready in the morning, I had HOURS of time to do things in. I still have a couple of chores to do, but those won't take but a few minutes...it's amazing. I may have to go to bed earlier in order to experience this wonder again.
Of course, once I started writing, it was hard to stop. I typed up some ideas for Ohmi's story (she has a new friend, Jor. Did I mention that?) from my idea book, and then I decided to work on my article, "Courting the Muse: Dos and Don'ts." It's a work in progress, obviously. Maybe I'll make it a feature on my webpage...nah. I'm having enough trouble just getting the silly thing coded and trying to find a good server to host it on. That's one of the problems with having no money.
In any case, I typed up my notes in MS Word. That seemed to work okay...but then I tried to type up that article, and the numbers screwed it up. I turned off the autoformatting, but no dice. The stupid program continued to try to give me numbered lists and skip lines after the titles of sections. I didn't want it to skip lines after those titles. If I had wanted it to do that, I would have told it to do that. Spooning, stupid program. So...I tried Wordpad. This is what I have to say to THAT program:
Why, oh Wordpad, have you deserted me? You used to do no autoformatting, and now you skip a line every time I start a new paragraph. You used to be such a GOOD text editor! I used to be able to turn to you when even turning off the autoformatting on MS Word wouldn't get rid of those bloody numbered lists! But now...you turn on me. Will I have to make the ultimate sacrifice and use Notepad? No, that darned thing won't hold enough words for me to use it for writing....WHY CAN'T I HAVE A TEXT EDITOR/WORDPROCESSOR THAT WORKS THE WAY I WANT IT TO WORK?!?! WHY???? Spooning Microsoft.
Sorry, that was a bit silly. But I mean every word. If anybody knows of a better wordprocessing program that I can use long-term and import into MS Word if I need to (since most people prefer that program, it seems), PLEASE let me know. I'm so sick of required autoformatting. *growls* I'm probably just doing something stupid and there's a simple, easy way to get rid of it...but I don't know what it is. Grr. Microsoft. *beets it with the MegaBeet (tm)*
Still, despite the problems inherent in dealing with Microsoft (without which it would still be hard for me to survive in the computer world at this point), I've been able to write a lot more lately than I have in the past few months. I've even got an idea of how to get going on the series I've been trying to write for over a year now. ^_^v Updates as time and information permits.
I've also gotten going on some serious, exciting, talent-stretching drawing--a group picture! Yay!
Well, gotta scoot and get ready to go and teach people how to write. More later!
Fun and Joystuff!
Athena rocks, but it's true that she did have some misogynistic tendencies. Lucky me--I don't. At least, I hope not! o.O;;
