Two, TWO Updates in One Day! Ah-hah-hah!
Oct. 29th, 2003 02:12 pmSomeone explain this to me.
I go into Toys R Us because they're having this really great sale on PS2 games. I find out that there's a "Free Demo Disk" for the new Sphinx game that's coming out. Since I'm interested in finding out more about this game, I go to the counter and ask for the Demo Disk. The cashier informs me that I'd have to pre-order the game in order to get the Demo Disk. At this point, I figure, the "Free Demo Disk" is not free. Also, why would I want a demo disk if I'm going to buy the game anyway? I thought the whole point of getting a demo disk was to try out a game to see if you liked it. Am I crazy, or are they?
Today is turning out better than expected. Class wasn't too bad, and Alex and I went and exercised at the campus gym today. We really need to do that more often. The thing is, I hate going to the gym, but I always feel great after I'm done. The getting there is the hard part.
Also, it hailed today, intensely, for a very brief period. Alex got caught in it. He said that running in hail is like "running on ball bearings." Slippery, apparently.
I still have a lot of homework to do, but I'm feeling okay about it. Lots of katakana to study tonight, though. And I still don't want to go to this meeting. Bah. Ah, well.
Well, I should go shower and stuff. Will write more later.

Date: 2003-10-29 02:51 pm (UTC)*ahem* Oh-kay... sorry, being annoyingly sarcastic. =.=
*ahem* Well demo disks do come like that. No, they're never just free. They just say free to entice you to buy the game. :P Or like in the case of Lunar (have you played that game before? :D)... they allow you to start your quest before the full game release is out. ^^; So to answer your question, demo's are technically never free. :P hehe.
Haha... I'm so with you there on the gym thing... 'cept the difference is that I don't Go. :3 Tis why I have my treadmill here! ^o^; Good luck with that!! ^^;
Hail, eh? How big? ^^;

Date: 2003-10-30 05:05 pm (UTC)It is so stupid to advertise a demo disk as "free" when it isn't. Lying advertisers. *baps 'em*

Date: 2003-10-29 05:12 pm (UTC)1. Buy another (full version) game that has the demo packed in it. Often companies will include a demo of an anticipated game along with a game that is not so great or unusual in order to boost sales. Square pioneered this technique by including a demo of Final Fantasy 7 with Tobal No. 1. Not that Tobal was a bad game, but it wouldn't have sold as well without the demo disc.
2. Preorder the game. It is pretty silly to preorder a game and get the demo for said game. I don't know why they do this.
3. Find the demo disc within a magazine. Meaning you have to purchase the magazine, or subscribe to it, and if you're lucky you'll get a demo of the game you want to try out.
4. Buy a $5.00 (or so) sample disc in the store that has many demos on it. Quick and easy cash for the publisher.
If you're lucky, they'll have the "demo" version of an anticipated game in the store display units. Target stores had the demos of SC2 for a little while before release.
