I have a new and specific enemy--that stupid banner ad that suddenly shouts, "Wanna video chat with me?" Thankfully, it no longer makes me leap out of my seat and scream with fear, but it still irritates me, especially that imperative male voice at the end that says, "Click here NOW!" I'll click YOU, buddy. You'll THINK "click." Hah! Also, if you actually LOOK at the stupid ad (don't click on it, just look at it), it says, "You GOTTA love this... I'll be here all day just hanging out!" What? Don't you have something BETTER to do? GAH! GO AWAY! And stop talking while I'm trying to listen to music! *beets*

Also, my childhood is being usurped. I have excellent childhood memories of such 80's cartoons as Thundercats, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, He-Man (to a small degree), and so on. Well, folks...they're back. I was in Target last night, and I saw He-Man figures. Unfortunately, they don't look as cool as they did when I was a kid, and I doubt you can take off their heads and arms and legs and switch 'em around. (We had endless fun doing that when I was little. "Skeletor, why are you wearing my pants?") Also, their heads are too small. Remember when He-Man and Skeletor had those comically large heads? Hee hee!

But worse than He-Man's makeover was Strawberry Shortcake. You girls out there (and maybe some of you guys) remember Strawberry Shortcake, right? Okay, so the coolest character out of the bunch was probably the Peculiar Purple Pieman (of Porcupine Peak! Ya-ta-TA-ta-ta-ta, ta-TA-ta-TA! CHAAAA!), but still. You remember how Strawberry Shortcake had that huge hat that looked like she was wearing a mega-muffin on her head, and she smelled like "strawberries." You remember that, right? Well, Strawberry Shortcake is different now. She's got this little pink straw boater (NO!) hat now, and her cat is FLUFFY. Gah! Custard is NOT fluffy! Custard is little and pudgy and short-haired and pink, with white polka-dots! Oh, and the original Custard kinda smelled like peanut butter. I'm not sure why, but I really remember that. But then, it HAS been a long time. Maybe the original Custard died of old age. He was a cat, after all. *sniffle*

Okay, I've probably just proved how pathetic I am by bringing up all this stuff. "Why is she stressing over this?" you may very well ask. Well, I'm not really stressing...I'm just kinda disappointed. I was talking to Alex about it yesterday (he was with me, of course), and we figure that the American cartoon industry has run out of ideas, so they're recycling/redoing old ones. Alex also brought up the point that many people of our generation (the generation that watched and enjoyed these cartoons) are grown up and have children of their own. If these children watch the same cartoons that our generation watched when WE were children, this could provide a connection between the generations--a love in common, if you will. My sentiment is still the same: Leave my childhood ALONE, spammit! Oh, and get some creativity! We need more good cartoons on TV!

Now, granted, I haven't watched Saturday morning cartoons in a LONG time. We don't get the channels, and I don't get up early enough. Could somebody tell me what's on now? Besides Spongebob. I think I dislike Spongebob. He scares me. I like Powerpuff Girls, though. No, I'm NOT pathetic! I just like cartoons! ;_;

In other news, I've been doing a lot of sketching lately. I think the creativity is good for me. I haven't really stretched that part of me in a while...and I find that drawing and writing are great de-stressers. Watch this space for sketches soon! WAI!

Well, must scoot. Chores today. Will update later. Toodles!

Amen, Sister!
Start me not on this rant. I don't have my Strawberry Shortcake dolls from the 80's My mom gave them away when I was 10...WAIIIIILLLLLLLL!)....except a Purple Pieman and 2 Sour Grapes. She smelled weird, but good...like raisins.
And towards the end she did have a straw boater.

And did everyone switch the He-Man limbs?
I still have She-Ra's castle though, and my My Little Ponies, Barbies, and Care Bears.

I am afeared of this resurgance of our childhood, I think the marketing world assumes we are all super nostalgic and now have money to buy it all again.

Did I say I wasn't going to start on this rant? Yes, yes I did.....

Nooo! Don't you hate it when moms give away your old stuff? I have a friend who sold all of his original edition Star Wars figures (with the box shaped like Darth Vader's head!) in a garage sale. *cringe* And I STILL don't know where my My Little Ponies are. I do, however, know where my Ninja Turtle collection is. In the garage. Heh.

Yes, everyone switched He-Man's limbs. It was fun! Do you remember his LSD-enhanced tiger? At least, it seemed to me that it was LSD-enhanced. I mean, most tigers aren't green and orange.

I agree with you about the resurgence of our childhood. It is scary. *sighs* Did you know that they've re-released the Care Bears movies on DVD now?

Elfie-chan, I think you VERY much need to see this awesome E-mail that I recieved a number of years ago, called "Children of the 80s." ^_^ I still have it with me today. Very nostalgic and poetic. I'll be darned if us 80s kids become a dying breed!

And you are most certainly NOT pathetic for bringing up such a tragic subject! ;_; The 80s was The Time! If more networks and entertainment industries would think like writers in the 80s instead of just thinking about profits, media quality would improve tenfold! We'd have more than just the same old storylines of movies and TV shows slapped into new packages with new actors. Granted, it's not ENTIRELY like that, but much too much for my comfort.

By the way, the new He-Man toys, I believe, are based on the new-generation He-Man cartoon that's come out. 9_9 I actually sat through part of an episode one time. It's a joke! Nothing whatsoever like the original cartoon. A big muscle-bound guy has a lot of fancy Matrix-like moves with a sword, whoopedee-doo! There's no storyline or life lesson! Whatever happened to stories with morals? Whatever happened to G.I. Joe's important safety tips("And KNOWING is half the battle!)? The new millenium is a mere shadow of twenty years prior. I sad. ;_;

OH! Elfie, you forgot to mention the greatest cartoon ever created in the history of cartoon making ANYwhere! Transformers! :D The original, mind you, not the modern-day Beast Wars or that new one that they show on Fox these days. Blech.

*G* Looks like I'm ranting too. I guess it's a sore spot for anyone originally from The Time.

*grins* I've read that e-mail, but please send it to me again! I seem to have lost it, and I want it. *snugs*

Yeah, whatever happened to original stories? One of the main disappointments that I have had with certain sci-fi movies (*cough*STARWARS!*cough*)has been the ultra-shiny special effects semi-replacing the plot. The old Star Wars RULES! What happened?

*giggles* He-Man is that bad now? *grins, then blinks in a scared way* I wonder what they're doing to Thundercats, even as we speak? *weeps for our future*

*grins* And yes. The 80's was "The Time."
