Greetings from Blissville
Jan. 15th, 2003 07:45 amI sit here, at a computer with a fast connection, drinking sweet chocolate chai from my favorite mug (tall, black, and bearing a grinning white skull and crossed sabers. Piratey. Arrrrr.). I am still in my bathrobe, and the house is relatively quiet. I have time before chores and responsibilities must begin. This is a good time of day, and it's been a very good week so far.
Yesterday was fabulous. I got up and mooched around the house for a while, getting ready for the day, but not rushing. It's nice not to rush. Then, about mid-morning,
arianadream came over, and we just hung out and talked about whatever was going on in our lives. That was SO much fun, and so relaxed. We haven't done that in AGES, and she's one of my best friends. I miss her. It's hard for us to get together, because both of us are so busy. I wonder if she's busy next Tuesday? ^_^
Monday was fantastic, too! Mom, Alex, and I went over to the church and mock-decorated it for the wedding. The decorations are VERY simple (mostly candles and very few flowers), but they look GORGEOUS. We also mock-decorated several tables to figure out what the reception decorations are going to be like. Everything's starting to come together, and I'm feeling really excited. That's definitely a good thing.
After we decorated the church and put away all the decorations, we went out for tea with my dad. There's this great little place called "Savoree'" that's set up like a Victorian tea shop. They give you a selection of teas to smell, and then you get to pick one of those or ask to smell different ones until you find one you really like. Then they bring you a pot that contains about three cups of tea, and each person gets to pick what they like and get their own pot. Then you all sit around and drink tea and munch goodies. The chocolate macaroons are to die for, and the scones and clotted cream are great, too. It's very relaxing and a great place to get together with friends. Also, they have a caramel fudge tea that tastes WONDERFUL. Heh. So, all in all, Monday was a great day. We got a lot done, and we got to relax, too.
For a while, I was seriously stressed out about everything related to the wedding--but I found out what the actual source of the stress was, and things are better now. Well, as better as they could be. I don't want to go into details here, but there are some things I'll just have to deal with. However, now that I know what they ARE, I CAN deal with them. Oh, and they have nothing to do with the wedding or marrying Alex, so you can all rest assured about that. I have no doubt that Alex and I will get married, even if the garb isn't done and we have to stand up there in potato sacks (which I doubt will happen, but I would if we had to!). As long as the ceremony ends with me married to Alex, all the rest is just frosting on the cake. I don't know what I would have done the past couple of weeks if it hadn't been for Alex.
I've been learning a lot over the past few months. One thing that I've learned is that it's very important to take care of yourself and not let life run you over. It's tough to pause and take a breath when you know you have a ton of things you HAVE to get done, but sometimes that breath is necessary to prevent burnout. My LJ is one way I take the time to relax and recenter. Enjoying a cup of chai (or herbal tea, or hot chocolate) is another way--it forces me to sit down and enjoy what I'm doing. My writing has become ultimately more important to me, and I've been writing more in the evenings this week. Of course, I have to watch that carefully, because I tend to get carried away and not go to bed until midnight. That doesn't let me get enough sleep. Seven hours is not enough--I need at least eight. More learning experiences...ergh.
In other news, I wrote the first chapter of WYLD ANGELS last night. I'm very excited about this story--it's been a long time since I sat down and did any serious writing, and this one is flowing really well. If I'm lucky, I'll get to work on it some more today! WAI!
Well, I guess that's about it for now. More updates later. *snugs EVERYBODY*
