Happy Halloween!
Oct. 31st, 2005 04:43 pmI am sad. As a non-traditional college student, I get no candy. I am too old to go out and demand cheap Palmer's chocolate and pure-sugar hard candy from those who have been hoarding such things since last year's Halloween celebrations. I am too diet-conscious to go out and buy a bag of individually-wrapped bites of delicious Snicker's goodness. I shall simply have to sit here, sip my tea, and try to remember if I have any good chocolate sequestered in the pantry cupboard.
Despite my sugar-deprived state, I am rather pleased with my choice of costume today. I went as a Rebel Hogwarts Student (Ravenclaw, of course). It was a nice, easy costume--short schoolgirl skirt, black tights, white button-down shirt, blue sweater, high-heeled Susan boots, and, of course, a cloak. Alex lent me his cloak clasp, which is shiny and nifty. I was also glad that I had chosen something relatively warm to wear. There were people on campus wearing such things as a barbarian costume (complete with furry loincloth and hugely horned helmet), as well as a couple of elves and suchlike. Unfortunately, it is hard for college students to enter into the spirit of Halloween on a Monday. At least, I'm guessing that was what was going on. It doesn't help that it was a bit cold and rainy today.
I want to do creative writing tonight.
arianadream's LJ reminds me that tonight is NaNoWriMo Eve. Best of luck to all of you crazy people who are actually participating in that. Your enthusiasm is contagious. I wish I had more time. Whine, whine, whinge. Maybe some writing will get done tonight in any case.
Alex and I started our Christmas shopping today. We also bought yet more packs of Pirates. Whee!
I also got inspired to do some drawing. I hope I'll have time for that, too. Mwahah.
This last weekend was incredibly inspirational for me, SCA-wise. Alex and I have been talking about all the medieval crafts and projects we want to do and how we want to get more involved with reviving the fun of our local SCA. Things have been getting pretty serious lately, and it's time for more period fun. First, though, we'll have to lay some plans. Further mwahahahing will ensue.
On days like this, I actually do want to study medieval manuscripts, but I really want to try my hand at some illumination work, myself. Unfortunately, I don't think that will help me pass tomorrow's midterm. The other unfortunate thing is that tomorrow's midterm is only going to be on two manuscripts. The reason that this is unfortunate is that it means that just about all of the test will be essay questions. The other problem is that, when we had class on Thursday, my teacher still hadn't written up the midterm. That rather frightens me.
I suppose I should stop procrastinating and go study. Happy Halloween, everybody!
