Blaaaaaargh.
Sep. 7th, 2003 11:49 amRead the subject line of this journal entry. Now read it again. Now, once more, with feeling.
That's pretty much how I'm feeling right now. I was up all night with an upset stomach (despite being a smart person for once and taking medication), and Alex believes I have a stomach bug. Whatever it is, I hope it goes away soon. I'm very tired, but I'm not going to sleep anymore until tonight's bedtime. I got about three hours of sleep after my body finished attempting to purge itself of everything I'd ever eaten.
I would also like to mention that Alex is the most wonderful husband ever. I tried very hard not to wake him up last night, but he woke up at about 6:00 this morning and came out to see what I was doing. Once he ascertained that I was sick (didn't take long), he immediately came to my rescue and did everything he could to see about helping me feel better--he brought me some flat 7-up, rubbed my back a little, and helped me clean up (not lots to do there, fortunately). Alex has seen me at my most disgusting, and he still loves me. *blissful sigh*
Other than the whole bleh-in-the-night thing, yesterday went really well. Alex and I went to Portland with my parents, my brother, and Mariana. Mariana wanted to go to a "real" mall. She lives in a city with twice the population of Eugene and Springfield combined. For her, Clackamas Town Center is no big deal. For me, it's a nifty mall with more good food than you can shake a stick at (one of the malls here has next to nothing good in the way of food, and the selection is fairly limited at the other mall) and fun stores to run around in. I made one purchase: The Art of the Dark Crystal by Brian Froud. I've been looking in bookstores for this book, and all of the copies I've found before have been dinged up from people mishandling them. The copy I picked up yesterday is in perfect condition. Happy Elfie.
Mariana doesn't like to read (which I cannot understand in the least, though I can respect it, I suppose), so we didn't go to my happy place, Powell's. My brother was disappointed, but my mom offered to take him and his girlfriend up to Portland on a trip by themselves sometime.
For dinner, we ate at this Moroccan restaurant called Marrakesh. It was fabulous. The inside of the restaurant is heavily curtained, and there are nifty lamps hanging everywhere and carpets on the walls. You get a choice of sitting on couches or cushions on the floor (I opted for a cushion, but Alex needed the back support of the couch). Each course is served to you separately, and they wash your hands for you at the table and everything. You eat everything with your fingers (though you can ask for utensils if you are so inclined). The atmosphere was wonderful--you could almost imagine you were in a Moroccan tent at night, enjoying a feast with your friends. I hear they even have bellydancing there sometimes. Even the background music is super-spiffy...though East Indian/Arabic rap is soooo weird.
Alex is playing Diskworld Noir at the moment...it's quite amusing.
Today, I shall mostly sit around, sip milk and tea (and keep them down), and maybe go out and about with Alex for a little while. I am feeling a lot better now than I was earlier, thank goodness. I was rather irritated about missing church today--they're starting a cool new series of classes called "Walk Through the Bible," which I think I'd enjoy. Alex and I were really looking forward to it--but then I had to go and get sick, and Alex stayed home to look after me. Poor Alex. I told him he could go ahead, but he cheerfully stayed behind and took care of me instead. I love him so much. We'll go to church next week.
I'm sleepy now, so I think I'll sign off for now.
saraphina_marie, I promise to get caught up on "A Year and a Day" as soon as I can. *snugs*
EDIT: A few small things I forgot to mention:
1. My parents are looking at getting a new cat--a kitten this time. It turns out that Spooky is very lonesome without her grumpy toy (Zypo, for those who haven't been paying attention). They're going to try to get a companion for her this week. I hope they pick out a good one, and that Spooky isn't as territorial about her humans as Zypo was.
2. I finished reading Microserfs. Excellent book, very insightful. There are several sentences that need to be added to my quote file.
3.
eternalfire has a fun journal. I like to read it.
4. I'm getting used to the new LJ formatting...but I still don't understand why they changed it.
