Blue Elf Needs Coffee, Badly!

Yes, I'm addicted to coffee. So sue me.
This weekend has been all kinds of fun so far. We came up here to Olympia on Friday, and Alex worked while I drank coffee and considered journal options (hard copy journal, not this one). Friday night, we went to see Corpse Bride, which was a cute movie, in a weird, morbid, Dickensian sort of way. I wouldn't mind seeing it again. We all expressed our disappointment in the fact that it was sort of a musical, and Alex suggested that doing the movie in opera format would have been better. I can't help but agree. Plus, imagine an Elfman opera. Sweet. We also saw the preview for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which looks absolutely awesome. I can't wait to see it. Wicked is beginning to tour. I hope it will come to Eugene, but I somehow doubt it. Bah.
Yesterday, Alex and Jason went mountain biking (probably their last ride for this year, unless they manage one in October or something), and I went for an exploratory excursion around downtown Olympia. I had a map of downtown, a bus schedule, some money, and a list of must-see shops. One of those shops was called The Archibald Sisters, and it was wonderful. It was also the only shop I bought anything in, other than food. I purchased a "WWND?" (What Would Ninja Do?) spinner, a deck of cards with famous pirates on them, and a pistol-grip ninja launcher. Yes, you read that correctly. It looks a bit like a squirt gun and comes with tiny ninja that you can shoot at a target (included). Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, it's cheap plastic. But, honestly, who could resist a ninja launcher? I was hard-pressed to resist picking up the pirate umbrella. Other shops included a home decor store, a toy store, a tea shop (no time to stop, but I noted it for future trips), and a dress shop (closed). I also went to the Farmer's Market and bought a chocolate macaroon for a snack. After that, I took the bus home, got off at the right stop, got mildly lost trying to find my way back to Jason's actual residence, and finally made it with the help of Alex and his cell phone. That was fun. I was also accosted by an intense young war protester as I was walking along and a crazy incoherent woman while I was waiting for the bus to take me home, but the trip was free of strange encounters otherwise.
Today, we're supposed to go "geocaching." I'll let you know how that goes. We'll be home this evening, at which point frantic packing-for-school will ensue.
I must go see about coffee now. *zombie voice* COFFFEEEEEEE! COFFFEEEEEEE! NOOWWWWWW!

Wicked is a much better book than it is a play, which I was disappointed with. And I agree about the musical numbers in Corpse Bride seeming a little forced and out of place. In Nightmare Before Christmas it seemed natural, because Christmas specials have traditionally been musicals and this was, at its core, a really morbid Christmas story. Not so much Bride though.
As adamantly against HP as I've become in recent years, I will admit that Goblet of Fire was the last book I really enjoyed in the series, and so the movie preview made me slightly squeegy.

Date: 2005-09-25 10:27 pm (UTC)I still haven't seen Nightmare, but I plan to. I really liked the animation in Bride, though.
I really enjoyed Wicked the book...did you know that the sequel comes out next month? *squee!*
Are you anti-HP, or anti-Rowling? I really enjoyed Half-Blood Prince, actually. The movie preview is shiny, but I know they'll have to leave out a lot. This makes me sad. :(

Date: 2005-09-25 10:40 pm (UTC)I had a wonderful time roaming the town. I think roaming Eugene might be fun sometime, too. There's a lot of our town that I haven't even seen.
